OUR BELIEFS

"

"In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity."

 - Rupertus Meldenius - 17th century theologian
Our beliefs can be described as…

Rooted in orthodoxy in that we affirm the historic declarations and creeds of the Christian faith. These are the basic truths that all Christians have confessed and held to for centuries.

Bible-based and Christ-centered in that we believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, salvation is the gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ, and our response to the Gospel should produce a life of holiness and personal witness to our faith.

Spirit-Led in that we believe in and embrace the continuing presence and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and gatherings. We seek the direction of the Holy Spirit for the vision and mission of our church.

What We Believe

The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the infallible, authoritative Word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:15-17).
The Trinity
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; Ephesians 4:4-6).
Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory (Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-4 and 1:29; Acts 1:11 and 2:22-24; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 1:1-4 and 4:15)
Regeneration
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration of the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential (Luke 24:46-47; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:23; 2 Corinthians 5:10-11; Ephesians 1:7 and 2:8-9; Titus 3:4-7).
Salvation
We believe salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-10).
Holy Spirit
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (John 3:5-8; Acts 1:8 and 4:31; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Galatians 5:16-18; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 2:6-10).
Sacraments
We believe in two sacraments of the Church: 1. Water Baptism. 2. Holy Communion (Matthew 26:26-30; Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:34-39; 19:1-6; I Corinthians 11:23-30).
Unity
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12, 27; Ephesians 1:22-23).
Marriage
We believe Christian marriage is a representation of Christ’s relationship to His Church. Throughout Scripture we discover marriage that is honored by God has always been between one man and one woman, and sexual love is a gift from God designed to be expressed and enjoyed only within the covenant of marriage. (Genesis 1:26-28, 2:24; Malachi 2:15; Romans 1; 1 Corinthians 6-7; Ephesians 5:21-33; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Timothy 1:9-11).
Return of Christ
We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, the consummation of the Kingdom of God, and the renewal of all things (Matthew 19:28; 24:42-44; Acts 1:11; 3:19-21; Colossians 1:19-20; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 11:15; Revelation 21:1-5).
Resurrection
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those that are saved unto the resurrection of life and those that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (1 Corinthians 15:51-57; Revelation 20:11-15).

Other Important Issues

Does Redemption support women in ministry and pastoral leadership?
At Redemption Community Church, we affirm and support the full inclusion of women in all areas of ministry, including serving as pastors and teachers. We believe this reflects the heart of scripture, the model of Jesus, and the movement of the Holy Spirit in the church.

Biblical Foundation
1.  Creation and Equality (Genesis 1:26–27)  From the beginning, God created both men and women in His image, giving them equal dignity, value, and purpose. The shared calling to “rule” over creation was given to both, establishing the foundation for mutual partnership.
2.  The Ministry of Jesus. Jesus consistently honored, taught, and empowered women in a countercultural way. He welcomed women as disciples (Luke 8:1–3), affirmed their voices (John 4; Luke 10:38–42), and appeared first to women after His resurrection (John 20:11–18), commissioning Mary Magdalene to proclaim the good news.
3.  Women in the Early Church. The New Testament shows women actively participating in ministry:
Phoebe is called a deacon and benefactor (Romans 16:1–2).
Priscilla teaches alongside her husband, even correcting Apollos in doctrine (Acts 18:26).
Junia is noted as “outstanding among the apostles” (Romans 16:7).
Philip’s daughters were prophets (Acts 21:9).
These examples indicate that the early church affirmed women in significant leadership and teaching roles.
4.  The Work of the Spirit (Acts 2:17–18)  At Pentecost, Peter declared the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy: “Your sons and daughters will prophesy.” The outpouring of the Spirit is not limited by gender, and the Spirit empowers both men and women to speak God’s word and lead His people.

Addressing Common Objections
While certain passages (e.g., 1 Timothy 2:12; 1 Corinthians 14:34) appear to restrict women’s roles, we believe these verses must be interpreted in light of the broader biblical narrative and the specific cultural issues they addressed. When understood in context, they do not present a universal ban on women teaching or leading, but instead, respond to particular problems in specific churches.

Our Conviction
We believe that spiritual gifts are not distributed based on gender, and that the calling of God to preach, lead, shepherd, and serve is open to both men and women. We are committed to honoring and equipping all who are called by God, regardless of gender, to lead His church in faithfulness and love.

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” — Galatians 3:28
Is Redemption LGBTQ affirming?
We welcome people of all backgrounds and experiences, including those who identify as LGBTQ+. Everyone is invited to worship, belong to community, explore faith with us, and take next steps in following Jesus.

As a church, we believe scripture shapes every area of life, including how we understand sexuality and relationships. Our teaching reflects historic Christian beliefs about marriage and discipleship, and those beliefs guide expectations for leadership and teaching roles within the church. (See “Marriage” in our statement of beliefs above)

We are uncompromising in our commitment to the truth of scripture while at the same time uncompromising in our commitment to compassion and treating every person with dignity, respect, and love.
What is Redemption’s stance on politics?
We are a diverse church made up of conservatives, progressives, independents, and internationals who bring perspectives from outside of the American experience. True unity is found in the midst of diversity not in uniformity, and we are united around the gospel.

Our church does not affiliate with a particular political perspective nor do we endorse parties, candidates, or elected officials.

We believe that our highest allegiance is to Christ, and our primary identity is that of citizens of the Kingdom of God. We believe that holding to the conviction of scripture and the historic witness of the church will result in Christians not fully aligning with the platform of any major political party. At the same time, we believe Christians should engage in the political process and vote as best we can in a way that brings about the most good and reflects our Christian values.

We believe that Christians can love our nation while at the same time resisting political idolatry and an unhealthy quest for political power. We believe Christians should be a voice of compassion and humility while at the same time being a prophetic witness, speaking truth to political leaders and parties, and advocating for justice in the biblical sense.
