WEEK 6: THE SURRENDERED GOD
March 23-28
SCRIPTURE
They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid.
Mark 10:32–34
DEVOTIONAL
Mark tells us that Jesus was leading the way toward Jerusalem. He knows what awaits Him. The cross is not a surprise. It is the destination. And still, He walks ahead.
The disciples are afraid. That feels honest. The road does not look safe. But Jesus continues forward, steady and resolved. Surrender is trust in motion.
Following Christ does not mean understanding everything. It means trusting the One who goes before you. It means releasing the need to control outcomes. It means placing your future in hands that have already carried the weight of the cross.
As Holy Week approaches, consider where God may be asking for deeper trust. Not dramatic gestures, but steady obedience.
The One who leads you is the same One who will rise again. You can follow Him.
FASTING PRACTICE
Fast: One Meal Per Day (Choose One Day This Week)
As we approach Holy Week, this fast becomes an embodied act of surrender.
Choose one day this week to skip one full meal. When hunger rises, resist distraction. Let it teach you dependence.
Hunger reminds us of our limits. It exposes how quickly we seek relief. It humbles our self- sufficiency.
During that time, pray slowly. Offer God what you are holding tightly - a decision, a relationship, a fear, a plan.
If fasting from a meal is not medically wise for you, choose a modified fast (skipping snacks, comfort foods, or another daily habit) with the same posture of surrender.
This is not about endurance. It is about trust.
REFLECTION PROMPTS
PRAYER
Jesus,
You walked ahead toward Jerusalem. You did not retreat when obedience became costly. I confess my hesitation when the path feels unclear. I confess my desire to understand before I obey. Teach me surrender that is steady. Not emotional reaction, but daily faithfulness. Not resignation, but trust.
As I fast this week, expose what I cling to for security. Help me release control into Your hands. Give me courage to follow You — even when I do not see the full picture. Strengthen my faith where fear rises. Lead me toward the cross with You. And prepare my heart for what is coming.
Amen

REFLECTION PROMPTS
- Where is God leading me that feels uncertain or uncomfortable?
- What am I still trying to control instead of surrender?
- Do I trust Christ enough to follow Him when the path is unclear?
