WEEK 1: SEEK GOD FIRST IN YOUR HEART
DAY 1
PRAYER FOCUS: Starting the Year With God at the Center
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…”
— Matthew 6:33
Most people live their lives reacting - to noise, to schedules, to people, to pressure. But seeking God first is a different way of living. It means beginning from a grounded center rather than a scattered one. When Jesus said “seek first,” He wasn’t placing a burden on us; He was removing one. He was teaching us that life becomes clearer, lighter, and more aligned when God is not an afterthought but the starting place.
Seeking God first does not require perfect discipline or spiritual intensity. It starts with awareness. It starts with a pause. It starts with remembering that God is present, willing to lead, and ready to walk with you through the year in front of you.
These 21 days are a reset. They are a way of saying, “Before I make plans, before I commit to anything, before I run into another busy year - I return to God as my first priority.” Even a small moment of intention can shape the rest of your day. Even a simple pause can reset your posture.
When you begin with God, you’re not trying harder - you’re aligning deeper. You stop carrying life alone and start living from a place where God’s presence becomes your stability.
PRACTICE:
Before your phone, to-do list, or responsibilities: sit for one minute in stillness and say, “God, I begin with You."
PRAYER:
God, I open this new season in Your direction. Bring my thoughts into alignment with You. Remove the pressure I put on myself to figure everything out. Help me trust that seeking You first is not another task - it is the posture that makes every task lighter. Calm any anxiety about the future. Make space in my heart for Your wisdom to lead me. Teach me a new kind of dependence that is steady and quiet. Let these 21 days shift something deep in me. Guide my year from the inside out. Amen.
REFLECTION:
What usually takes first place in my attention each day, and how does that need to change?
