WHAT ARE CHILD DEDICATIONS?

Child Dedications are an opportunity for parents to publicly declare their intent to raise their child in a way that honors God.
At Redemption, we baptize those who have made their own profession of faith in Jesus Christ either as a child, who has reached the age of understanding the gospel, or as an adult. So what do we do for infants and young children to symbolize that they are welcomed into the family of God? We present them to the Lord in a special ceremony known as child dedication. Just as Jesus was presented in the temple by his parents (Luke 2:22-24), we bring our infants and young children in dedication to the Lord, and we anticipate the time when they are old enough to make their own profession of faith and be baptized.
At the dedication ceremony on a Sunday morning, our pastors will lead parents in committing to raising your child to know Christ and pray a blessing over your child and family.
To participate, parents should:
  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Regularly attend Redemption’s weekend services and follow Christ in their own life.
  • Be committed to modeling a lifestyle of following Jesus to your child.
  • Be in agreement with Redemption’s statement of beliefs.

FAQs

Is child dedication the same as baptism?
Child dedication is not the same as baptism. Baptism is a personal decision for individuals who have chosen to trust Jesus alone for their salvation. Dedication is a ceremony where parents dedicate their child to the Lord and commit to raising them according to Scripture.

When does Child Dedication take place?
Child Dedications occur twice a year here at Redemption Community Church. Register your child for dedication below. Feel free to invite friends and family to join you for this special ceremony.

What happens during the Child Dedication Ceremony?
During child dedication, your family will have a special moment on stage with our lead pastors during our Sunday morning service. Our pastors will invite you to publicly commit to modeling a godly lifestyle for your child and raising them to follow Jesus, and then the pastors will pray a dedication prayer over your child. We’ll also pray over your family and present you with a Bible and certificate for your child.

Do I need to be a member of Redemption to dedicate my child?
Membership at Redemption Community Church is not required for child dedication. However, we encourage families to consider making Redemption their home church by committing to membership, as dedication signifies a partnership with God and the church in raising a child. We also ask that you be in agreement with our statement of beliefs.

I am a single parent. Can I dedicate my child?
Yes, single parents are welcome to participate in child dedication.

I became a parent through adoption. Can I still dedicate my child

Absolutely! If you’ve recently adopted a child, we’d be delighted to dedicate them once the adoption is finalized. We value our foster and adoptive families and are here to support you.
